It started in a backyard

With a few ukuleles, improvised water jerrycans and children ready to explore.

When the World Stood Still

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everyday life across the world. Schools closed, playgrounds fell silent and many children in Soroti suddenly lost more than classrooms. They lost places to learn, create and belong.

Rather than waiting for normal to return, we opened our backyard to a small group of children. Through storytelling, singing, Bible study and music, they found friendship, encouragement and the freedom to be children again.

We did not begin with a building, a detailed plan or expensive equipment. We began with what we had, where we were and a belief that every child deserves the chance to discover what they are capable of.

Small beginnings

We began with what we had, where we were and a belief that every child deserves the chance to discover what they are capable of.

One child became many

Before long, word began to spread. More children arrived, and what started with a handful gathering in a backyard slowly grew into a vibrant community of learners.

As the children grew, so did the opportunities. Where once everyone shared a single book, now three children could read together. Music soon became part of everyday learning.
