From 21 books to 1,761
—and still growing.
Temple Talents began its library with just 21 books, personally purchased to give children something meaningful to read. Since then, donations and support from friends and partners have helped grow the collection to 1,761 catalogued books.
But the shelves still have room, and children are always looking for the next book to read.
Books are meant to be opened.
Children do more than find books on our shelves. They read independently and together, listen to stories, talk about what they have read and share books with friends. Through regular reading activities, books become part of how children spend time, learn and discover new ideas.
When children cannot come to the library, we take the library to them.
Our library can only hold so many children at a time, while the need extends far beyond our centre. Through mobile libraries and community-based reading activities, we take books, stories and learning experiences into neighbourhoods where more children can participate.
The setting may change, but the idea remains the same: bring books within reach and create opportunities for children to read, learn and discover together.
