In Uganda, 82% of children at late-primary age are not proficient in reading. Yet a book can open a child’s world to new ideas, different places and possibilities they had not imagined. In Soroti, where not every child has books at home or a place to read beyond school, Temple Talents works to make books and reading opportunities part of children’s everyday lives.

Spaces for reading
We give children space and time to spend with books, whether reading independently or sharing stories. At our Centre, children use indoor and outdoor reading spaces after school, and many more come on weekends. They also take part in read-aloud sessions, guided reading, creative writing and reading activities in schools and communities. These experiences help make reading and writing more than school tasks, encouraging children to enjoy books, grow curious about the world and become more confident in their ability to learn.
Our Library
Our library is at the heart of our literacy work. At our Centre, children have access to a growing collection of books and spaces to read, explore and learn. Through our mobile libraries, we also bring books and reading opportunities closer to children in schools and communities. We want more children to have access to books, wherever they are.
